Learning Reflection

1.) What have you learned about leadership in general and/or your own strengths as a leader during your time in KNR 171?Provide examples from your experiences in KNR 171 to support your answer.

  • What I have learned about leadership in general is that leadership is a skill that you need in today's world. It is so important to have the skills to be a effective leader. I have learned throughout the semester that being a effective leader does not mean that you are someone that has to boss others around. Or that you need to have that "take charge attitude". Being a leader is so much more then that. It is showing everyone to do the right thing and to be a role model for someone. After taking this class it has really taught me that I can work under pressure and be able to perform and do the duties that I am assigned to do. When we were facilitating in my group facilitation I had to work under pressure at one point because of one of my teammates had accidentally read one of my parts off so I had to come off with something to say right off the bat. We learned in KNR 171 that when things comes up when facilitating, or being in charge of something you need to be able to react on your feet and be able to get it done, because things will come up and you will have to work through it all. When we did the Clifton Strengths it said that one of my strengths is "Restorative" which means that I love to solve problems and fix things. During my time in KNR 171 I feel that I have used this strength a lot. Especially when I was doing my PLP throughout this semester. When I came face to face with a problem when coming up with activities I had to start all over again. But because of this strength I was able to find a solution.

2.) What have you learned about collaboration/teamwork in general and/or your own strengths as a collaborator/teammate during your time in KNR 171? Provide examples from your experiences in KNR 171 to support your answer.

  • What I have learned about collaboration/teamwork during my time this semester is that I learned a lot about time management skills because when we all worked together as a group for the facilitation we all had to meet to work on the project and we all are on different schedules so that made it a little challenging to meet up but with my group it was super easy to all work together because of all this skills we all acquired. I learned throughout this experience how important collaboration and teamwork is. Whether its working at a camp and coming up with activities, or being apart of a management team. Teamwork is important in every aspect of everything you do in your life.

3.) In what specific ways will your learning in KNR 171 contribute to your work as a professional and career goals? Why is this learning important beyond our classroom? What can/will you do with it?

  • Learning in KNR 171 will contribute to my work as a professional because I was taught so much variable lessons and life skills. I just landed a really good job as being a front desk manager at a trampoline place and I had to come up with a facilitation for Friday nights,  well since it is a risky job I had to come up with a risk management sheet. In class we learned all about risk management and I already used this skill outside of class.

4.) Recall and reflect on one occasion that you had to utilize one of your Top 5 Strengths from the CliftonStrengths for Students assessment during KNR 171?

  • One occasion I had to utilize on of my top 5 strengths from the clifton strengths was when I had parts of the group facilitation to work on my own and by myself. I had to use "Responsibility". I had to be responsible for getting all my parts done and getting everything done the correct way. I have always been very responsible so I was able to get every thing done on time and exactly how it was suppose to be done.

5.) What areas of growth have you seen in your facilitation skills during your time in KNR 171? Provide examples from your experiences in KNR 171 to support your answer.

  • Areas of growth that I have experience  and have seen is between my facilitation one and my facilitation two. In this class I love that we were video taped so that we could see the improvement and see things for ourselves on what needs to be changed and fixed. During my first facilitation you could see how I didn't really talk very loud and I kept moving around which had to be very distracting for the participants. I also read straight off my notecards and  I need to have more of it memorize next time. When the second facilitation came along you could totally see the change of my whole being. I was a lot more confident and I spoke louder and I didn't move around as much.
